Scottish Social Enterprise Awards Applications open for 2017
The Scottish Social Enterprise Awards are now accepting applications for their 2017 awards show, which will be held at the Scottish Parliament.
The awards are run by Social Enterprise Scotland cover six different categories and recognise excellence, innovation and success in social enterprise across Scotland.
Duncan Thorpe, Policy and Communications Officer with Social Enterprise Scotland, said: “We sincerely believe that social entrepreneurs should have their achievements recognised. They don’t recognise the value of what they’re doing enough, so it’s about taking a step back. We also want to recognise the client groups they work with as well; social enterprise helps give those groups a voice.
“We’re looking for innovation, doing something different, social impact, how big their social impact is, who they’re helping as well as a uniqueness, is this the only business doing this?”
This year’s award show will include the new Tech for Good Award, which recognises the many social enterprises across Scotland who are utilising technology and digital services for a social cause or social impact.
It replaces the Youth Enterprise prize, which has been less popular in recent years and often clashes with other youth enterprise awards.
The awards show is an opportunity for Social Enterprise Scotland and those in the sector to reflect on the successes of the past year and recognise the achievements of those individuals and groups working in social enterprise.
The winners of two awards – Social Enterprise of the Year Scotland and One to Watch Scotland – will be automatically entered in the Social Enterprise UK Awards.
The other awards up for grabs are the Social Impact Award, ‘Buy Social’ Market Builder Award, Tech for Good Award and the Social Enterprise Champion Award.
A few of the categories also cover those who support social enterprise, such as local authorities, provided they can display their social impact. Social enterprises in the private sector are also covered.
One of last year’s winners, Homes for Good, are a social enterprise letting agent operating in the private sector, and picked up the coveted Social Enterprise of the Year Award at last year’s ceremony.
Assistant Director of Homes for Good Alice Simpson said: “It was a fantastic honour to win Social Enterprise of the Year last year! There is nothing better than recognition from your peers that you are achieving your goals.”
She continued: “The social enterprise community in Scotland is fantastic and inspiring. The awards are great at highlighting where people are leading the way, and they also provide a really good platform for us to learn from each other’s practices and achievements. The awards themselves highlight the growing diverse range of social enterprises in operation.”
